Faucet and Showerhead Swaps

You can save a lot of water by simply swapping out your faucets and showerheads (and toilets, too, but that’s more involved). The standard flow rate of a bathroom faucet is 2.2 gallons per minute while faucets labeled with the WaterSense label have a maximum flow rate of 1.5 gallons per minute. Standard showerheads have a flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute while WaterSense labeled showerheads flow at a rate of 2.0 gallons per minute.
Toilets, while much more difficult to swap out, can also have an effect: WaterSense toilets use 20% less water than the federal standard. While these differences seem minimal, they can quickly compound given the amount of time we use faucets and showerheads daily. Just look for the WaterSense label on whatever amenity you want to purchase.
